FASHIONISTA
With your body type you should be able to carry anything from skinny jeans to skirts to trousers and dresses. If you want to change your look, I suggest you go shopping with a few friends you trust and whose fashion sense you like. Try on various kinds of outfits and pick up ones that suit you best. If you have a limited budget, stick to a great pair of jeans (skinny or straight will look great on you). A skirt in a solid colour and a summer dress and a nice belt. Accessories are what make or break an outfit, so learn to accessorise (Look at the Dec 2009 issue of THE TEENAGER for basic yet cool clothing must-haves and Jan 2010 issue for tips on accessorising). And finally remember beauty is mostly internal. If you aren't wearing the right clothes and your toes haven't been repainted in weeks, if you're happy and smiling and confident, you will still be pretty. One of my friends is throwing a party and I want to look unique. What should I opt for? I don't want to wear capris or leggings. I also want to put on some accessories. Please suggest something really unique and cool. Snehal
You can try wearing a skirt in pretty pastel shades. If you like brighter colours try something in turquoise, emerald, lavender or fuchsia. Look for polka dots, stripes and floral prints. White is by far the most versatile color, as it goes with neutrals as well as the bright, clear pastels. You can choose from long flowing skirts, mini skirts and wraparounds. Try on different styles and see what suits you best. Team this up with a sleeveless top. If you are wearing a printed skirt combine this with a plain top. Wear this with strappy sandals or wear Ballerinas with a short skirt. A cool bag with pretty earrings and a bracelet should complete your look. I want to know which make up will go with what complexion? Will a blue dress go with pink gloss? With a blue dress, which nail polish will suit if to be worn to a party?
Make up for teenagers should always be soft and subtle and lip gloss is always a good option. Pink shades suit girls with a fair or wheatish complexion. Darker skin tones look better with brown and bronze shades. With nail paint its best to try different shades to see what suits you. Most young people can carry off colours like blue and green. But if classic is more your style a pearl shade is a great option. It suits every colour outfit while also looking classy and stylish.
I have a red pair of skintight capris. Apart from wearing it with a long top I’ve just purchased, where can I use it?
You can wear the capris with a long oversized shirt (why not try one of your dads or your brothers and fold the sleeves to your arms?) in a complimentary colour and wear a broad belt over the shirt. If you can carry off short tops wear them with your capris (waist-length) or else wear slightly longer tops. Tops in black, white, greens or shades of red will go well with red. You can wear capris anywhere. Team it with high heel shoes and a dressy top and you can wear it to a party, for a more casual look you can wear the capris with a casual top/tee shirt and team it with sneakers, ballerinas or open toe sandals.
