I’m 15-years-old and I usually wear very simple clothes but I want to wear clothes like mini skirts, short tops, etc. But when I wear these I feel very uncomfortable. What can I do? Minakshi S. / Pune
Hi Minakshi, the most important rule with clothes is to ALWAYS wear what you are comfortable in. If you are not comfortable with what you are wearing it will show and you will only end up looking awkward. There are so many different kinds of great clothing options in varying lengths, colours and styles. Choose from capris , jeans, trousers, skirts and dresses. And since you want to wear skirts why not try a knee length skirt with a nice fitted shirt/ T-shirt. They are not so short but look just as great.
What kind of accessories should be worn on a black evening gown? Arti Nankani (Age 16) / Solapur
Hi Arti, a black evening gown is a very elegant outfit, so it’s best to keep the jewellery elegant too. Silver jewellery works best or you can also wear costume jewellery. It costs less and there is so much variety available in stores. A neckpiece and silver earrings will look great, or you can leave your neck bare and instead wear dangling earrings and a nice ring. Carry an evening purse or a beaded bag large enough to hold all the essentials (keys , money and lipgloss) and finally to complete the look wear elegant but comfortable high heeled shoes.
I am 13 years old and 5 feet 1 inch tall. I am not slim and I feel heavy in the bust area. What kind of clothes I should wear? Alisha / Jhansi
Hi Alisha, all of us would love to be tall and slim, but you need to remember you are special and unique and you need to start believing that since no one else will unless you do.
The right kinds of clothes though can surely help accentuate your best features.
Invest in a good pair of jeans. Avoid tapered jeans, instead try a boot cut.
Dark colours make you look slimmer, so try black, navy, charcoal, burgundy, deep green, or purple.
Wear garments that fit you well. Look for tops that are tight at the waist and loose around the chest area- this style is a great way to minimize the waist and create the illusion of a smaller bust. The wrap-top is another great option - it minimizes the bust region, plus, you can adjust the tie to cinch the waist. Empire style tops will also look good.
Select clothes with vertical lines. They don’t need to be striped. Vertical seam lines, such as princess seams, will do the trick.
Wear V-shaped necklines. These neckline styles aid in creating the illusion of height.
Avoid bulky fabric as that will make you look broader.
If you want to wear a belt, wear slim belts and match them to your outfit i.e. avoid contrasting colours.
And finally the one thing you should always wear – your SMILE.
I want some cool styling tips for my hair. I have waist-length hair which I can’t do anything about except tie a ponytail. My hair is also frizzy. What kind of hairstyle should I go in for? Sania Sharma / Delhi
Hi Sania, to begin with you should visit a good salon to get a cut that will not only suit your face but also help you to manage your hair. Ask the stylist to suggest a haircut and styling tips to suit your face, hair and life-style.
To tame frizzy hair
Use a good conditioner. The trick is to leave the conditioner on for a few minutes before rinsing it out. If you have extra time, try wrapping your hair in a towel with the conditioner on and let your hair "soak" for about 10-15 minutes. Then rinse it out.
When you're done, wrap your hair in a towel for several minutes to get out the excess water instead of rubbing the towel over your head. Both towel rubbing and brushes lead to hair breakage and make it much more vulnerable to frizzy hair.
If possible use a leave-in conditioner. Hot oil treatments will also give you some temporary control to frizzy hair, but you'll probably need to use them weekly or bi-weekly.
For styling options you can choose from braiding your hair, wearing it in a bun or even a ponytail, but make sure accent your style with beautiful hair clips and hair ornaments.
