Movie Review
CAST: Ranbir Kapoor, Konkana Sen Sharma DIRECTED by Ayan Mukerji, brother of Rani Mukherjee, and a youngster himself, Wake Up Sid is his directorial debut and he excels in every way, be it his screenplay and story, the latter being fresh and original. Ayan keeps the story simple starting from something as simple as Sid learning how to prepare an omelette, keeping his comic books stacked, arranging his own bed and small duties like that. The young cast too is exuberant in their acting and relate well to the present-day scenario of boy meets girl, the coming-of-age story. The story revolves around Sidarth Mehra or Sid (Ranbir Kapoor) a 20-something rich spoilt brat who splurges on his dad's (Anupam Kher) money, takes his mother for granted and spends his waking hours partying and hanging out with his college buddies. A lazy, unmotivated and careless guy, he meets Aisha Banerjee (Konkana Sen Sharma) a Kolkata girl who now works in Mumbai as a writer for Mumbai Beats editor Kabir (Rahul Khanna). In time they become friends. While Sid is a waster, Aisha (who is also five years older than Sid) knows what she wants in life, be it the freedom to do what she wants or a chance to do something new. When Sid's parents kick him out of the house, Aisha takes him in, and that's what sets off a change in Sid's behaviour. A series of events compels Sid to take stock of his life. You can very well guess what happens next. In between the film might just drag, but it manages to keep you glued through a few hilarious scenes.
The DVD comes with loads of additional features. Watch out for the Wake Up Sid music video and other music vids. Through Making Of The Film you learn that title was Ranbir's idea. There are many deleted scenes out of which the love scene on the terrace is one of the highlights. There's also a sneak peak of Date With Sid (with Karan Johar). A perfect love story and a great pick for Valentine's Day.
