www.getsafeonline.org

Getsafeonline.org shows you how to keep safe on the internet with advice and tips on keeping your PC and you out of the hands of those malicious intent. The site offers guidance for home as well as business users. A good place to start would be the 10-minute safety guide for beginners. You can also take a test to see how safety savvy you really are. Look for the “detailed advice” link which offers resources for parents, teachers and young people on how to use the net safely.

www.freerice.com

If you want to do a good deed and build your vocabulary, go to www.freerice.com. While other sites give away charitable donations for little more than a mouse click, FreeRice makes you earn them. The site challenges you with word quizzes - you have to state the meaning of a word from a multiple choice of four. For every word you get right, the site will donate 20 grains of rice through the UN World Food programme. You can see the donation piling up on the right and can play for as long as you like. (The words get harder the longer you play.) So if you have a few minutes to spare, why not do some good?
