![]() The 14th edition of the Chennai Open will once again be held from January 5-11 with prize money of USD 450,000 up for grabs. This year the star-studded field is led by World No. 5 Nikolay Davydenko (Russia), World No. 12 Stanislaus Wawrinka (Switzerland) and former World No. 1 and two-time Chennai Open champion (2005, 2006) Carlos Moya (Spain). The crowd can also look forward to some tough action in doubles with the World No. 1 pairing of Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan (USA), known as the Wonder Twins, participating for the first time. They will be up against the World No. 3 pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles and the World No. 6 pair of Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy. Since January 2005, Chennai has joined the league of other important venues having an international tournament named after them. The increasing popularity of the tournament and players of the likes of Ramanathan Krishnan, Ramesh Krishnan, Vijay Amritraj, Anand Amritraj, Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes, who have all spent significant parts of their careers in this great city, has resulted in Chennai being branded as the mecca of Indian tennis. With Boris Becker, Carlos Moya, Patrick Rafter, Rafael Nadal, David Nalbandian, the Chennai Open has seen a galaxy of stars take part, providing Indian players an opportunity to compete with the best from around the world. Started in 1996 by IMG, a global leader in sports management and marketing, the Chennai Open has completed thirteen successful years of existence, under the aegis of the All India Tennis Association (AITA). Winner of the prestigious ATP Player Services Award of Excellence in 2006 for its outstanding organisation and wonderful hospitality towards participants and ATP Best Marketing Award in 2008, the Chennai Open has acquired the status of a much sought-after tennis event for both players and fans alike.

Well yes, I have been a regular at the Chennai Open and have a good experience in the circuit. 2004 was good for me with a victory over Paradorn Srichaphan from Thailand. I won 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5). In 2005 I again got a victory defeating Paradorn Srichaphan 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(5). Hope to have a victory this season as well at the Chennai Open 2009. To be crowned ‘King’ Carlos once again… I need to focus on my match, playing my best.

I have now finished the year as the No. 1 ranked Russian player and No. 5 in the world. The Chennai Open is in the start of the next season. I hope to have a victory and have a great season for the year to come. Being at this event. The Chennai Open is one of the top circuits today and it's also India's only and South Asia's premier ATP International Series event. I played at the Chennai Open in 2001. It has been a great tournament for me to begin with. I'm back in India after 8 years and will keep my mind calm and focus on the game. The Chennai Open is one of the top circuits today and South Asia's premier ATP event. We had an average year in 2008 with a bronze at the Beijing Olympics beating Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. We reached the finals of the Tennis Master Series in Shanghai. So hope to start the next season with a bang and have a victory which will give us a good start for the year to come. Your doubles-pair chemistry. Tennis is in our blood; we have always played our best and concentrated on winning each match. It's been great victories for us and we are happy with the past results.
