Constant drenching and high levels of humidity in the air can be a pain if you want to look your best always. Constant care is required to keep your hair lustrous and also keep your skin glowing. Here are a few tips to help you sail through the season looking and feeling great.
Rainy-day Makeovers
Skin care
Have you noticed how during the rains, your skin tends to wrinkle and is more prone to acne? Here are a few simple tips to get around these problems.
Cleansing: A normal cleanser can be used; those with oily skin can use oil-free cleansers.
Massaging: Use a penetrating moisturiser for massaging. People with dry skin can have a butter massage twice a week, while people with oily skin can use olive oil.
Exfoliation: Dead skin accumulates more often in this season. A normal scrub can be used or home remedies like a face pack made of fresh almond powder and honey could be used for dry skin. For oily skin, a pack of lemon juice, rice flour and a few drops of rose water could be used as a scrub.
Steaming: Steam your skin to open the pores. This process should not exceed 3 minutes.
Face-pack: Apply a face pack to smoothen, exfoliate and moisturise your skin. For those with dry skin, make a pack with milk powder and milk. For oily skin, a pack of multani mitti, citrus fruit juice and honey can be used.
Toning: Last but not the least, toning forms an integral part of the whole process. For dry skin, use coconut milk as a toner and for oily skin, use tender coconut as a toner.
Hair care
The monsoon brings with it a host of hair care problems like limpness, greasiness and hair fall. The heightened moisture in the air makes the texture of hair dull, flat and tangled. As a result your tresses can look limp and unattractive. A little care taken could keep hair-raising troubles at bay!
Never leave your hair open, as it can easily get entangled in the rain. Tie it up into a loose pony-tail.
Oiling your hair at least thrice a week is essential. Sesame oil is most suitable as it is conventional and non-greasy. Also almond oil, bhringraj or hibiscus oil and olive oil could be used.
Wash your hair at least thrice a week with lukewarm water. Do not use lathering shampoos as they tend to dry and roughen your hair in this season. Use only mild shampoos or herbal-based shampoos.
Frizzy hair is a common problem in monsoons, as excess humidity tends to make the hair dry and coarse. Therefore conditioning is very important. A good conditioner smoothens out the hair, making it easily manageable. Extracts like Avocado oil in conditioners will give the hair a silky smooth feel and also help prevent hair fall.
Dry hair completely before tying up.
Try not to use hair sprays and gels as the lacquers and gums can stick to the scalp causing dandruff.
