MOVIES - MUSIC - BOOKS
In this sober romantic comedy Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais), dies unexpectedly, but is miraculously revived after seven minutes, only to awaken and discover that he now has the ability to see and interact with dead people; specifically those with unfinished business from their former lives. They soon pester the good doctor into helping them resolve said business, but as a man who outright detests social interaction, Pincus simply wants to be left alone. Even worse, they all want something from him, particularly the smooth-talking spirit Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) who manages to grab his attention with a deal: if Pincus can break up the impending marriage of his widow Gwen (Téa Leoni), Frank promises the reluctant clairvoyant that he will Live In Peace. But the tables turn as Pincus develops feelings for Gwen. You cannot expect too much from this melodrama that is more of dialogue than action, but the storyline is impressive. As for the extras, there’s not much to look forward to. There’s the feature length ’Audio Commentary’, ’Making of Ghost Town’, ’Ghostly Effects’, a demonstration of the film’s special effects and ’Some People can do it’ a gag reel peppered with plenty of Gervais flubs and other happy accidents.
