You have sung songs for many actresses. Which actress according to you comes closest to your voice?

Many people have told me many things and I just get confused, but from what I understand, Urmila Matondkar fits my voice the best. But I suppose even Bipasha, Kareena and Kajol would also sound similar to me.

You have worked with many composers down the line. Who's your favourite?

I think it would be rude to name just one. They all have their unique style. I have been comfortable with all of them and I like everyone. No favourites! (laughs)

Are you very choosy when it comes to a song you want or don't want to sing?

Yes, I think I have come to that stage where I can choose the best and do what I think I want to do. But I try never to reject an offer that has come to me. As a singer it's my job to sing a song and make it to the recording. If I do reject the song, it would only be if I do not understand the lyrics or the lyrics are not suitable to what I feel is right.

What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

It all depends on my mood. I trip on Rihaana, Beyoncé. I also love listening to Lataji, Ashaji, Kishore da and Rafi Saab, not necessarily in that order though.

Your favourite music artistes?

I love western music and Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson are my inspirations. I also admire Celine Dion and Whitney Houston.

Tell us something about your collaboration with pop icon Enrique Iglesias on Heartbeat.

Working with Enrique was a fantastic experience and I'm really thankful to Shamir Tandon for coming up with this idea and approaching me. Working on a non-film project is very different from a Bollywood one and even though I've worked with Shamir in the past, this time it was a totally different approach. The Indian elements used on the song took it to a different level. I'm glad it turned out the way it did, because I've been hearing a lot of positive feedback. I'm just happy to be a part of this project, and I hope collaborations like these come my way because I'd love to work on them again.

Did you work with Enrique on a one-on-one basis?

No, but initially when we were talking about the song I did meet him. It's a nice, flowy and smooth track, a mix of Hindi and English while a folk line keeps repeating which is the hook of the album. It's just one track, four minutes, but there's a lot of variety in it, which you can experience as you listen to it. I'm sure the song will be on everyone's lips for its catchy melody and interesting lyrics.

Any projects for the year ahead?

I have a lot of work in the pipeline. I recently worked on a song for Tez and I've also sung for Dum Maaro Dum.
