“If a guy says he’ll call you and doesn’t, or he says he’ll meet you and doesn’t… well he’s just not that into you”. This is the outline of the over two-hour flick which shows that relationships aren’t all that glossy as they seem. Some are complicated, confusing and just not happening. If it works for you, it works. Maybe you’ve been in a situation like this before. The plot revolves around a copywriter for a spices’ catalog, Gigi (Ginnifer Goodwin), who is on her first date with real estate agent Conor (Kevin Connolly) and who thinks she has found her Mr Right. But days pass and he fails to call back. Disgruntled, she seeks solace in her co-workers Beth (Jennifer Aniston) and Jamie (Jennifer Connelly) who instruct her on the finer nuances of what to expect from a first date. But alas she bumps into bar manager Alex (Justin Long) and repeats the same mistake. He thankfully sets the record straight and educates her on the difference between what men say and what they really mean. Meanwhile Beth and Janine have relationship issues of their own: Beth’s boyfriend of seven years, Neil (Ben Affleck), doesn’t believe in marriage, and Janine’s husband, a music industry rep Ben (Bradley Cooper) has a wandering eye for a wannabe singer/yoga instructor Anna (Scarlett Johansson). Ad editor Mary (Drew Barrymore) is Anna’s friend who provides the link between this loose-knit community of love-struck lovers. Will Gigi find love and will Neil finally marry Beth?
It’s a complicated romantic drama with a slice of comedy laced into it for good measure. The advice in this movie is that if you suspect that your friend is dating a guy who can’t see her true worth, either tell her to dump him or see this movie for a host of answers. With a brilliant line-up of Hollywood stars it’s a good film filled with experiences that men and women go through in a relationship. Enjoyable, light-hearted and a clean movie with a message for the young at heart. If you are in a relationship or entering into one, this movie is totally worth watching.
