Charlotte’s Web

BIG Home Video, Rs 499/-

Based on the 1952 Newbery Award-winning book by E.B. White, Charlotte’s Web conveys a simple moral about friendship and loyalty and will surely make your heart lighter and bring a tear to the eye. The film points out the little miracles in life and the way love and commitment can make a real difference. If you’ve loved watching Babe, here’s more piggy fun.

A spring pig Wilbur (voiced by Dominic Scott Kay) is the runt of a litter of pigs and about to be killed, but is saved by young Fern Arable (Dakota Fanning) who offers to take care of him. As time passes, Fern is unable to keep the 300 pound pig as a pet, and is forced to give him to her farmer-uncle Homer.

In the barn, Wilbur meets its residents — Gussy the Goose (Oprah Winfrey) and her mate Golly (Cedric the Entertainer), Samuel the Sheep (John Cleese), Bitsy (Kathy Bates) and Betsy (Reba McEntire), the cows and Ike the Horse (Robert Redford). It’s only the barn’s most detestable creatures, the egotistical rat Templeton (Steve Buscemi) and the compassionate and intelligent barn web spider Charlotte (Julia Roberts) who become his best friends.

Templeton informs Wilbur that one day he will be Christmas dinner for the farm owner. Wilbur is deeply saddened to know he will die. Charlotte especially promises to save him and spins fancy, slogan-filled webs (“Some Pig”, “Humble”) above Wilbur’s pen to convince his guardians that he is indeed a special pig and worth saving. Will her ploy work in Wilbur’s favour or will he be slaughtered when snow falls? Find out what happens.

This 96 minute movie offers a lot of entertainment as well as a look at the true reality of life. There are a host of special features including a music video and much more, all in 5.1 surround sound.
